Energy centers & The Enneagram

Everything is energy — the earth, water, our breath, fire. Energy is designed to move, flow, and interact with other energy. When it doesn’t, the energy (like a pool of water) becomes stagnant and more likely to become polluted. Inside us, we have specific areas where energy accumulates and is hopefully redistributed to other parts of the body. When the system is out of balance, that energy pools and creates unhealthy density.

I have created an interactive map that integrates the Enneagram with the Hindu chakras and the Taoist dantiens to show how these energetic centers relate to personality. The map brings together four traditions — the chakras, the three dantiens, the Enneagram Centers of Intelligence, and the Enneagram Instinctual Drives — as complementary lenses on the same human being, rather than as competing frameworks. The subtype and centers architecture is grounded in the work of Beatrice Chestnut and Uranio Paes, under whom I trained directly. The synthesis across all four traditions into a single interactive diagram, and the clinical framework for reading imbalance across them, is my own.

I also introduce a concept I have been developing in my clinical work: Earth vs Sky energy. The Root and Crown chakras anchor the two poles of the vertical axis — the grounding current of the earth (Earth Mother) and the descending current of the sky (Sky Father). Polarity along this axis is old terrain in Taoist cosmology and in the work of contemporary energy teachers like Cyndi Dale and Caroline Myss. What I offer that I have not seen elsewhere is a clinical mapping: specific mental health presentations — ADHD, dissociation, and sensory processing differences on the sky-heavy side; PTSD, eating disorders, and rigidity on the earth-heavy side — read as expressions of imbalance along this pole.

I suspect, as others including Gabor Maté have written, that the same imbalance contributes to physical illness. I focus here on personality and mental health, where my training sits.

If this resonates, there are a few ways to go further. Clients and clinicians interested in consultation or clinical work can reach out through the contact form. Clinicians and serious practitioners who want to know when new tools, writing, and trainings are released can sign up for the email list below. I hope this map supports you on whatever path of growth you are walking.
