The MAP Assessment was an eye-opening experience. I thought I was further along on my inner work journey, but the MAP assessment, which was done through the unique angle of story-telling, helped open my eyes to some blind spots I’m still carrying. Wilder’s guidance throughout the process was both compassionate and wise. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to lead a deeper journey of themselves!

Frequently asked questions
-
The MAP was developed after reading Robert Bly’s book Iron John and witnessing its principles in a men’s initiatory group. I got the opportunity to examine my own placement in the story, which lead me to wanting to support others in finding their own placement. What began as a discussion with my clients turned into a formal assessment.
-
No. It is important to already have a strong sense of your type prior to doing a MAP assessment. The assessment, however, may clarify your dominant instinct and repressed instincts and how they run your life.
-
The report provides a summary of your current level of awareness mapped to both CP Enneagram’s Level of Awareness Model and the initiatory thresholds present in the Iron John Story.
As well, the report provides specifically tailored information about how your Type/Subtype influences your current level and what your next steps are.
Even more, you’ll be provided with specific follow-up questions you can use to bring to your therapist or journal about independently to help you on your journey.
Finally, your report will include specific details about what the various symbols in the story mean to you in your personal life and what you need to do next with them.
-
Although the story comes from a male initiatory tradition, the symbols and thresholds for growth belong to everyone regardless of gender. However, the story we will explore uses gender specific language to stay true to the mythopoetic tradition it was derived from.
In terms of accessibility based on age, I have run this assessment for people age 7 to 70. Although the story and discussion is accessible to children, it is ideal for those 18 years and older based on developmental age to begin the initiatory process.
-
You can expect to learn more about your dominant and repressed instinct, your Enneagram passion, and how all those aspects affect your current stage of progress in your own journey.
In some cases, we may begin the next initiatory step in the session itself. This can be quite evocative and release long held baggage and messages.
-
The assessment is designed as an experience rather than a fill-in the blank or multiple choice test. The reason for this is that the assessment is designed to enter into the person’s subconscious to identify strengths and challenges that have been hidden from the ego. No quantitative test can accomplish this.
